The landscape where I travel is filled by
unusual, dramatic lighting, atmospheric,
changing moment by moment. As I was
crossing the broad plain of the valley one
evening a sudden piercing light of parting
clouds filled a fleeting and momentary vision
of this vast space dotted with small specs
of sunlight; a flooding of color in the already
falling dim evening tones. The drama of this
moment is something I come back to often;
seeing it and it often becomes the subject of
painting, as memory for its transcendent character.
