I am continually fascinated by the presence of old mills in rural Virginia. Some still grind corn and wheat. The technology seems timeless; the stone walls a solid tribute to a different time. Convenient to roads, you drive up, check out the craft of the stones and connection to the water driven wheels powering them. Although most mills, I’ve seen, house the grinding equipment powered by a force of water running within the building, I took a liberty here with an outside wheel moved by water.
